Room 104 |
Welcome to room 104. In our classroom, we work as a team to accomplish our goals. We learn from each other and teach each other throughout the day. This page is a great way to check out what your child is learning. I will be adding videos, photos, and other important information for you to feel as though you are a part of our team that is on our way to mastering first grade.
We have snack each afternoon. A snack calendar will be sent home each month to inform parents of when it is their turn to provide snack. Snacks should be healthy choices. If you are unable to provide your snack on your designated day, please let me know in advance so that I can provide snack for that day. If your child has any food allergies, it is best to provide snack for your student on a daily basis.
Breakfast will begin starting the first week of school. Breakfast will be served in the classroom between 8:30-8:45. If you would like your child to eat breakfast in the classroom, please make sure to fill out the breakfast form that came with your summer mailing.
Homework will be sent home starting Friday. Each Friday your child will be sent home with a "Family Times". Please complete at least 3 of the 5 activities, initial them, and send the sheet back to school the following Friday. Additionally, your student will complete math work daily. Math homework should be returned the following day. Finally, students will be sent home with a reading log and spelling activities. Please complete the log each week and send it back. Students should read at least one book a night and add each book to his or her reading log.

Writing workshop occurs every morning. Students spend two weeks practicing each writing genre. They write at their own pace and identify where they are in the writing process before each writing session. At the end of the second week, they publish one piece of writing that they share with the class. I meet with individual students each day to discuss their writing and remodel writing procedures according to where they are in the process.
