Valentine's Day Party

On Wednesday, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day.  We will be having a brief party where the students will decorate a Valentine's Day bag to hold their valentines.  The students will then pass out their valentines, and we will conclude our party with an ice cream party.   If you would like to donate anything for our ice cream party, please let me know.

Due to having two snow days during our Annie's Big Nature Lesson field trip to Woldumar Nature Center, we will be making up these days in the spring.  I will let you know the dates as soon as we have them confirmed.  Please feel free to volunteer on those make up days.

This Wednesday is a full day of school and we do not have school Friday.  Please remember to have your student wear athletic shoes on Monday and Wednesday for Kinetics.

Annie's Big Nature Lesson

This week we are going to Woldumar Nature Center for our Annie's Big Nature Lesson field trip.  As a reminder, students must have the proper winter gear or they will be staying back at school in a third grade classroom.  Winter gear includes snow pants, boots, a hat (not just a hood from their coats), insulated gloves (no stretch gloves), and a warm winter jacket.  The students may enter the classroom at 8:20am to begin eating breakfast this week.  The bus will depart at 8:45am.  If your child is not at school by this time, we will be leaving without him or her.  Each student is required to bring a sack lunch unless you asked for a lunch to be provided by the school.  Lunches provided by the school have already been requested.  We will load the buses from Woldumar Nature Center at 1:45pm to head back to school.

If you are planning on attending the field trip, you may ride the bus with us. You are required to bring your own sack lunch.  All chaperones are required to participate in activities with the students.  You will be learning alongside your child.  I will be providing you with a notebook for observations and other learning activities.  Cell phones are to be used for taking pictures only.  If you need to take a phone call, you must return to the parking lot to do so.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

This Wednesday is a full day of school.  Students will have no homework this week.

Field Trip Reminders

Next week is our field trip to Woldumar Nature Center for Annie's Big Nature Lesson.  I will once again be sending permission slips home to any student who has not turned in his or her permission slip or his or her $20.00.  Please remember that if you did not check any of the boxes on the lunch option of the permission slip, then you will be responsible for providing a sack lunch for your child on those days.  Also, please make sure that your child is prepared for the weather next week.  Each student will be required to wear snow pants, boots, a warm winter coat, insulated gloves, and a hat to attend the field trip each day.  We will be outside for up to an hour at a time so students must have warm winter gear.

Due to the Field Trip next week, I will not be sending home reading/spelling homework this Friday.  This Wednesday is an early release day.  The students will be dismissed at 1:50pm.  Please remember to send athletic shoes with your child on Monday and Wednesday for Kinetics.  Library books should be returned on Thursday and are due back Friday.

Reading Comprehension

As we approach the half way mark for this year, we are beginning to really dive into comprehension.  This means that I will be asking the students to think more deeply about what they are reading.  We will be drawing conclusions from our reading, identifying the main idea and supporting details when reading, and making inferences about what will happen next in a story.  To support your child with comprehension at home, ask him or her questions about his or her reading that require deeper thinking instead of simply identifying the characters or asking them to sequence the story.

Our field trip is exactly three weeks away!  Please make sure that you have turned in your child's permission slip, $20.00, and that you have checked any days in which the school will need to provide him or her a sack lunch.  In addition, please make sure that your child has all of the winter gear necessary for this week long field trip such as snow pants, boots, a warm winter coat, insulated gloves, and a hat.  Students without the proper winter gear will not be able to attend the field trip.

This Wednesday is an early release day.  The students will be dismissed at 1:50pm.  Please remember to have your child wear athletic shoes on Monday and Wednesday for Kinetics.  Library books should be returned on Thursday and are due back Friday.

Homework

I hope you enjoyed your extra day off of school.  Since we did not have school on Friday, I will be sending spelling and reading homework home on Tuesday.  Please try to complete this homework by Friday if you can.  As always, I will be sending math homework home throughout the week.

I will be sending home another field trip permission slip to any student who has not returned one or who still owes the $20.00 fee.  Please return these as soon as possible since the field trip is only three weeks away.

This Wednesday is a full day of school.  Please remember to send your child with shoes as our floor becomes wet from snow boots.  Students should wear athletic shoes on Wednesday for Kinetics.  Library books should be returned on Thursday and are due back Friday.

Reminders

Welcome back from winter break!  I wanted to remind you of a couple of things as we get back into the swing of things.  First of all, the students will not have spelling or reading homework this week since this will be a review week.  The students will have math homework this week.  There will also be no spelling test this week.  Secondly, we are quickly approaching our Annie's Big Nature Field Trip during the first week of February.  Each student will need to have turned in a permission slip that was sent home in December and the $20 fee.  Please let me know if you need another permission slip sent home.

This Wednesday is an early release day.  The students will be dismissed at 1:50pm.  There will be no school next Monday, January 15th.  Please remember to send your student with shoes everyday.  Wearing boots in the classroom, makes our floor become wet and slippery.  Students should also wear athletic shoes on Monday and Thursday for Kinetics.  Library books should be returned on Thursday and are due back Friday.

Christmas Breakfast

This Friday will be our annual Christmas Breakfast.  If you have not signed up on Signupgenius to bring in items, please do so as soon as possible.  We are greatly in need of pancakes and sausage.  If you do not have internet access, please send in a note regarding what you wish to bring for our holiday breakfast.  We will be having breakfast this year in the cafeteria from 9:00-10:00am so the entire second grade can be together to celebrate.  We also need volunteers for serving food to students.  Please let me know if you can come.

Our turn to shop at the Holiday Christmas Shop has been rescheduled to Monday at 2:05pm.  The students who have brought in money will be able to shop during this time.  If you have lost your envelope, please just use a sandwich bag or an ordinary envelope to send in the money.

This Wednesday is a full day of school.  Please remember to send in athletic shoes on Monday and Wednesday for Kinetics.  Library books should be returned on Thursday and are due back Friday.

I hope that you enjoy your holiday break with your family.  I will see everyone after the new year!
